Scottish edition only. (The furry critter in the picture is Mafdet.)

Managed to swim a kilometre in today's session, up from 750m for the past two swims running, up from 500m, up from three missed sessions in a row due to the nose/throat bug from hell. Yay, me.

That scan is readable, but only if I want a headache. Maybe later...

I have a much higher resolution scan, but the size of it is definitely anti-social for LJ, even behind a cut.

Well, if you don't mind you can email it to me: jackb (at symbol here) sff.net.

In any case the picture of the furry animal being held up by its pet is nice. :-)

Thanx. I already tried [info]akicif's suggestion and it worked well enough.

Madfet is certainly a striking and relaxed looking animal, just like her human. I, too, will read (or attempt to read) the article later. (This laptop does not work well outdoors. Too much glare...

I haven't read the article yet, but congratulations on the swimming. The first workout after time out of the water always feels like going under the wheels of a whole fleet of busses. A week or two of dilligence later and you're down to a single bus and a smallish delivery van. Get it down to the usual two-surly-teens-on-a-stolen-Vespa and you feel like you're king of the world...

Oddly it's easier to read if I don't attempt to magnify the screen. It's interesting to see them describe the Hugo nominations as "mainstream successs," thought for most papers that was the Booker.

Anyway, well done Charlie, well done Mafdet.

I like the quote from Andrew Wilson. I'm reminded of the quote by Kevin Williamson on the cover of Trainspotting...

Okay, but you can't rest on your laurels, Scotland; South Korea is catching you up.

I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a glowing review of "The Hidden Family" in Salon.com at http://www.salon.com/books/review/2005/06/06/stross/index.html. They chose it as one of their eight Summer Reading books.

The cat is Mafdet. She's a slut. She charmed the pants off the photographer the Times sent round. And as she (the photographer) took a number of shots of me without Mafdet in the frame, she obviously charmed the socks off the desk editor, too.

Purely by chance, we bought said paper yesterday, as we need lots for the new pup. You'll be glad to know we noticed the article (well, the photo really :-) ) this morning before it got used for its intended purpose. Good article; wonderful pic ;-)

Excellent! I don't know when we're next planning on being in Edinburgh. How about buying a few rounds when we're next in the same vicinity in exchange for postage and packing?
